The daily ritual of brushing our teeth is as old as the Egyptians who used small branches where the ends were frayed into soft strands. Until the invention of Nylon® in the 1930s bristles were made from wild boar or horsehair. Cellulose Propionate is produced by only one company in the world, Eastman Chemicals. It is one of the very few plastics derived from a renewable source and has been used in production since 1928. Used in toothbrushes, it offers an alternative to its closest cousin, cellulose acetate which has a slightly sharp taste in the mouth.

The Radius Toothbrush Company was started in 1982 by two architects who wanted to provide people with a comfortable and enjoyable toothbrush, soft Nylon bristles, large head area for low pressure, and a comfortable handle.
